MORRISTOWN, NJ – FOX News, in partnership with the National Merit Scholarship Program, has selected a Morristown native as one of the recipients of its third annual Dr. Charles Krauthammer Memorial Scholarship.
Emmett Gaffney, a student at the Oratory Preparatory School, son of FOX’s vice president of documentary programming, was among the winners. Gaffney will be featured on the network’s evening newscast, Special Report with anchor Bret Baier.
Gaffney is an honored student athlete at Oratory Prep and serves as editor of the student newspaper “The Omega”. He is also vice president of the history club and is expected to attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison in the fall to study history.
Created by FOX News Media in 2018, the Dr. Charles Krauthammer Memorial Scholarship awards eligible children of network employees a monetary stipend per academic year for up to four years.
All aspects of the program, including the selection of winners and the administration of their awards, are conducted through the National Merit Scholarship Program by the independent, not-for-profit National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) .
To be eligible, high school students planning to enter college in the fall of 2022 must have taken the PSAT/NMSQT test and met several academic and other requirements set by the NMSC.
According to the announcement, the winners were selected on a competitive basis without regard to family financial status, gender, race, ethnicity or religious preference.
Once chosen, NMSC pays the scholarship directly to the accredited US college/university after determining that the student has remained in good standing. The scholarship belongs to the student and is not affected if his parent leaves the company following the communication of the scholarship.
Krauthammer, whose fellowship is named, was a contributor to FOX News Media from 2002 until his death in 2018. He was renowned for his political commentary and analysis on FOX News Channel’s flagship programming.
During his tenure, Krauthammer made frequent appearances on Special Report with Bret Baier and FOX News Sunday.
Krauthammer was also a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and physician. He then joined The Washington Post in 1984 where he wrote a weekly column until his death in 2018.
