Another popular Buffalo TV News reporter quit

Another Buffalo TV reporter announced she was leaving. There must be something in the water because several have come out in the last two years. Kelly Khatib is the latest reporter to announce that she has left her job at Spectrum News in Buffalo. She made the announcement on Twitter, writing,

LIFE UPDATE: Tuesday will be my last day at Spectrum News Buffalo. I will miss my news family so much, but I’m excited to start this next chapter!

Kelly’s message also included a longer farewell note and a photo with Mayor Byron Brown. She didn’t say where she was headed, but I’m sure she has something new and exciting planned.

Why are so many Buffalo TV News reporters leaving?

At this point, I think I’ve run out of fingers to count the number of TV journalists who have left Buffalo in the past two years. Here are some of the talented journalists we have lost recently:

Liz Lewin – WGRZ
Shannon Smith – WIVB
Jhas Williams – WIVB
Gabrielle Mediak – WIVB
Mel Orlins – WIVB

I know I’m missing a few, but these are the ones I can think of right now. I wonder why so many reporters and presenters choose to leave Buffalo. Is it the work environment, the city or the state? I’m curious because I’ve seen so many leave recently. It seems they all have great opportunities with other stations in other cities, so in the long run it works out well for them. But what does this mean for Buffalo?
