Another reporter abruptly quits Buffalo

It seems like there are so many journalists leaving Western New York lately. Some very notable names have announced that they are leaving the Queen City.

In the past month or so, presenter Mel Orlins and journalist Jhas Williams have both quit the morning show on Channel 4, in addition to sports commentators Paul Stockman and Mary Margaret Johnson. Just last week, local Lancaster reporter Gabby Mediak announced she would be leaving for a job in a bigger market.

Now another Channel 2 reporter has announced his abrupt departure. Liz Lewin of WGRZ, took to social media to announce on Tuesday that her last day would be Thursday, two days later.

The team here at WGRZ – You are an AMAZING group of people and the caliber of journalism produced by this newsroom never ceases to amaze me. To my team FROM TOP TO BOTTOM — thank you for embracing, encouraging, challenging me… I will be forever grateful.

According to the Nielsen DMA ranking, Buffalo, New York is the #53 market in terms of size. Reporters who want to stay in news and television frequently move to bigger markets to move up the ladder and earn a significant amount of money.
