Digital Media Manager, Reporter/MMJ and News Producer

WBRE, Nexstar’s NBC and WYOU, the CBS affiliate operated by Nexstar, both in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pa., have vacancies for a digital media manager, reporter/MMJ and news producer.

WBRE and WYOU are located in historic downtown Wilkes Barre. The stations serve 1.5 million viewers in 17 counties. Located in northeast Pennsylvania, the resorts are surrounded by nature. The area is known for its state parks, Poconos and the Endless Mountains. The local climate is ideal for hiking, fishing, rafting and cross-country skiing for outdoor enthusiasts. Located only a few hours drive from New York, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, the neighborhood is also perfectly located for day trips.

The Digital Media Manager (DMM) directly oversees the day-to-day operations of the station’s digital advertising business and interacts with clients and advertising agencies to maximize digital revenue.

This position also manages content, contributes to the writing and manages the quality control of wiproud.com, the community portal website for our stations.

The position manages a dedicated digital salesperson and a dedicated digital content producer.

The DMM also helps hire, train and develop account executives and works with GM and LSM on digital sales.

  • Develops and executes sales strategies that result in exceeding revenue targets in digital product and new product revenue as well as all Nexstar Digital digital products
  • Stimulates the development of new business
  • Collaborate with Integrated Digital Specialist (IDS) to create cross-platform advertising solutions for local and national clients
  • Collaborate with IDS to develop and conduct consistent training for the sales team
  • Be an effective educator and ambassador both internally and externally on the benefits of digital marketing for customers
  • Manages inventory and revenue forecasts
  • Manages the recruitment and development of talented sales professionals
  • Prepares budgets and approves budget expenditures
  • Manages accounts receivable for digital advertising
  • Account calls with account managers
  • Performs other assigned duties

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, or mass communications, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum three years of sales experience, preferably in the digital field
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Experience in guiding, directing and motivating subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance
  • Knowledge of mainstream digital technologies such as Google Analytics, ad labeling, SEM/SEO, social media, behavioral and contextual targeting, CMC, content management,
  • Experience setting long-term goals and specifying strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Ability to identify the development needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise assist others to improve their knowledge or skills
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent follow-up, resourceful and motivated
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize with multiple pending deadlines

The Multimedia Journalist produces, reports, films, writes, voices, edits and powers news production content for all platforms in a way that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers.

  • Reports news stories for broadcast, describing background and details of events
  • Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about stories
  • Revises, copies and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
  • Reviews and evaluates notes taken on aspects of the event to isolate relevant facts and details
  • Determines the emphasis, length and format of a story, and organizes the material accordingly
  • Research and analysis of contextual information related to news to be able to provide complete and accurate information
  • Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experiences, or participation in political, news, sports, arts, social, or other functions
  • Provides news managers and news producers with stories relevant to the local community
  • Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas
  • Discuss issues with producers and/or information managers to establish priorities or positions
  • Checks reference material such as books, news files, or public records for relevant facts
  • Revises work to meet editorial approval or to meet time requirements
  • Films and edits current events and reports
  • Produces and presents reports for all platforms
  • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Superior on-air presence
