Freeways reopened after fire near Concord causes major closures

Firefighters from multiple counties battled wind and heavy smoke as they battled a blaze in rural Dixon County on Wednesday afternoon.

CONCORD, Neb. – Firefighters in several counties were dealing with wind and thick smoke while battling a blaze in rural Dixon County on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was located about five miles south of Concord and three miles east of Highway 15.
Initial reports indicated that a combine harvester was on fire in a field. Fire units from several towns in Wayne, Dixon and Cedar counties were called to the scene.
A News Channel Nebraska reporter at the scene described thick smoke severely limiting visibility.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation said part of Interstate 15 was closed between Wayne and Laurel. Route 116 from Highway 20 to Highway 15 was also closed.
Both carriageways were reopened before 7:30 p.m.
