LINCOLN, Neb. – The Lincoln Police Department arrested a 59-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting and kidnapping a child.

Police say Mensah Gozo was originally arrested for abduction and sexual assault of a child, but now faces one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of incitement to a kid.

The LPD said around 10 a.m. Sunday that officers were notified of a missing person case near 1st Street and the Cornhusker Highway. Investigators said they learned that a 12-year-old girl had left the house and had not returned.

Officers said they began a relentless search for the baby girl and shortly before midday on Sunday the girl returned home to the Gozo region. Gozo reportedly picked up the child and drove her to his home where he sexually assaulted her.

Gozo was arrested later Sunday without incident and was taken to Lancaster County Jail.

LPD is asking anyone who may have had contact with Gozo to speak to investigators.
