Suspended BJP MP T Raja released on bail: Court rejects dismissal request, made objectionable remarks about Prophet; Demonstrations in dozens of police stations
In the case of making controversial remarks about the Prophet Mohammad, the court granted bail to MP T Raja Singh, giving a warning. The court had previously ordered the BJP leader to be taken into custody for 14 days, but later the court, overturning the remand order, granted him bail. Police produced T Raja Singh at Nampally Court in Hyderabad.
Here, people started demonstrating in dozens of police stations to protest Raja’s release on bail. A crowd of protesters also gathered outside the prison.
T Raja posted a video on Tuesday using derogatory words for the Prophet Muhammad. However, he later called it a joke. After the statement, a large number of people took to the streets to protest against him. Subsequently, he was arrested. The BJP also suspended MLA MP T Raja from the party.
Protests have been taking place in Hyderabad since Monday night against T Raja’s statement. The angry mob had demanded the arrest of MLA T Raja of Goshamahal, shouting slogans of ‘a punishment of the insolent prophet, head tan se Judah’. Protesters compared T Raja’s statement to that of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
After that, a case was registered against him at Dabirpura Police Station under several sections including 295(a) and 153(a) of the IPC. The police also arrested many protesters. A large number of police forces have been deployed outside the Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Office, the Chief Police Officer’s Office and the former Police Commissioner’s Office.
On Raja Singh’s alleged statement, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said, “I condemn the BJP MP’s statement. The BJP wants to spoil the peace in Telangana, the BJP wants to spoil the peace in Hyderabad and the communal riots here.
BJP MLA had posted a video against comedian Munawwar Farooqui. Munavvar performed at a comedy show in Hyderabad last week. Earlier, Raja Singh threatened to shut down Farooqui’s show and set the set on fire. Raja Singh said that Munawwar Farooqui hurt the religious feelings of Hindus. After this threat, he was placed under house arrest.
BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made a controversial statement about Prophet Mohammad Sahab during a televised debate on May 27. Because of this statement, the BJP suspended him from the party for 6 years. Violent protests took place in many places across the country against Nupur’s statement.
The Supreme Court also reprimanded Nupur Sharma in this case. The court said Nupur made provocative remarks against a particular religion on television. They provoked people’s feelings and Nupur is responsible for everything that happens across the country. He posed a threat to the country’s security.
