OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha police officer is facing two more federal child pornography charges, and the department has decided to fire him.
Officer Christopher Groth was initially charged with transporting child pornography. Now he is also charged with production and possession of child pornography.
Court documents indicate that Groth coerced a minor into engaging in sexually explicit behavior between September and December 2020 for the purpose of producing a visual representation.
The grand jury indictment said he later knowingly possessed and transported child pornography, but an affidavit outlining details of the charges against Groth remains sealed.
An Omaha police spokesperson said department officials began the process of firing the 15-year-old veteran shortly after his arrest earlier this month. He made his first appearance in federal court on February 16 and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
