Peru Theater Company wraps up the Fall 2022 season with Jennifer Haley’s Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom. The film is directed by senior student, Austin Martin (Falls City). It features a cast of fifteen new and former members of the Peru Theater Company.
Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom (or N3RD as we call it) is a dark comedy set in Suburbia, the world of an online horror video game. Relationships between parents and their children are deteriorating with the rise of adolescent gambling addiction. As the rules of the game, reality and virtual boundaries blur, we are forced to question our own relationships and to ask ourselves: “Who do I take you for?”
N3RD is Austin Martin’s “last hurrah” before he begins teaching in the spring of 2023. Originally from Falls City, Martin is majoring in Education/Special Education and his minor is in Theater. He is also a US Marine. He recently played “Hal” in the Peru Theater Company’s production of Proof. Now he provides leadership and experience with this cast.
Returning Peru Theater Company member Nick Hower (Nebraska City) plays the Son type. Trevor says, “Working with the Peru Theater Company is about making new friends and making memories. Freshman, Emily Mattox of Leavenworth, KS, plays the Sister type. Chelsea plans to work on more shows because “she’s having too much fun!” Mattox also expands his theatrical training by learning combat on stage with guest artist and fight manager Reed Westerhoff (Seward, NE). She said, “It’s a bit scary, but it’s really interesting!” Laura Lippman, Assistant Professor of Theater and PTC Advisor, originally from Long Island, NY, said, “Bringing a myriad of professional guest artists is essential to expanding the reach of Peru State College beyond the community of campus. She is proud to make these connections.
In addition to an all-student cast, N3RD includes lighting students, costume designers and a stage manager student. Freshman Katelyn Crawford of Blair, NE is both assistant director and stage manager. She says, “My favorite thing so far is seeing the progress all the actors have made since the beginning.” When asked what is the most difficult, she replies: “Working with a cast of more than four people is particularly difficult!” Yet somehow, this fearless cast and creative team finds a way to make it work. Come see them on stage.
Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom is rated PG-13 and performs at Peru State College’s Jindra Black Box Theater.
